QUAD-SURFACE
Modeling of structural engineering objects in three dimensions.
QUAD-SURFACE 4.0 is the product's newest release. It allows processing of principal features commonly encountered in FEA meshing of planar objects in 3D: sets of line segments and curves arbitrarily connected to each other.

Below we provide two simple examples processed by QUAD-SURFACE 4.0. Please follow this link for a more complex model.

In structural engineering applications we often encounter models of the following type: a building has on each level various numbers of rooms with walls between them, which, in turn, can be just planar surfaces, but can also have “bent” shapes. Buildings usually contain one or several elevators modeled by openings in floors and ceilings, with walls around each opening.

Example 1: bottom plate containing an internal sequence of line segments and arcs.

Sometimes, walls separating adjacent rooms can have openings (holes) in them too. In a very simple case a floor plan may look something like shown below; for the matter of simplicity we didn’t introduce into the model the building's other walls, internal or external. QUAD-SURFACE can mesh the model in different ways depending on user-defined step values along each entity and/or other working parameters.

The floor contains several internal features: PINT-points, one opening (hole) and an internal sequence, consistng of four parts:

  • line segment QLW1 from P020400 to P021000;

  • line segment QLW2 from P021000 to P081000;

  • arc QARC from point P081000 to PD;

  • arc QARC1 from point PD to P080400.

  • Example 2: bottom plate containing a tree-like combination of line segments.

    A tree-like combination, or TLC, is a set of curves/segments and/or their sequences having common points on a planar surface. Since QUAD-SURFACE generates meshes on surfaces in three-dimensional space, internal segments/curves belonging to a particular planar surface can be used as “contacts” with other surfaces, placed in 3D by the user, according to meshing requirements for a particular model. For example, additional planar surfaces can be placed vertically (or at an angle) with respect to XOY plane, where the segments belonging to TLCs represent their common points. A possibly simplest example, shown below, is a rectangle in XOY that can be treated as a building’s floor, and the four segments indicate projections of walls parallel to the OZ axis onto the XOY plane.

    The bottom plate (floor) TEC consists of four parts:

  • line segment QL13 from P1 to P3;

  • line segment QL23 from P2 to P3;

  • line segment QL34 from P3 to P4;

  • line segment QL45 from P4 to P5.

    QUAD-SURFACE 4.0 allows:

  • meshing of complex plate and shell structures in 3D space, consisting of flat, cylindrical, spherical components, surfaces of revolution and also general-case 3- and 4-edged patches;

  • meshing of non-homogeneous domains, consisting of multiple plates and shells with different physical and/or geometrical properties;

  • easily readable and convenient description of geometrical models;

  • fully automatic processing, requiring no interference from the user.
  • QUAD-SURFACE is available with complete source codes and the full commercial lisence allowing easy incorporation into your own applications. All our codes are written in ANSI C and will compile and run on all UNIX and Windows platforms without changes. They are also fully commented, allowing easy modification at user discretion.

    QUAD-SURFACE is available on no-royalties and no-annual-renewals basis: there is a one-off price for the unlimited commercial lisence.

    QUAD-SURFACE standard distribution kit includes:

    - fully-commented source codes of the program in ANSI C,

    - the product's User Manual containing detailed description of input and output data structures and an example driver program;

    - a graphical application that allows displaying domains that are to be meshed, as well as generated quadrilateral meshes.

    QUAD-SURFACE is completely developed by our company and contains no third party code.

    Finally, our "try-before-you-buy" policy. If you send us several examples of your domains, we will run QUAD-SURFACE and send you the generated meshes. If you are satisfied with results, you can then buy QUAD-SURFACE.
